The Smiles for Katie Family Photo Grant program is alive and well.
Grant monies provided by the Pacific Life Foundation help fund this
valuable program that makes professional photography available to
families of special children.
SKPA-accredited photographers may request a grant application
for families who would benefit from the grant.
On items beyond the grant appropriation, Laura donates half the amount
normally charged.

Laura knew clients that would
benefit from Smiles for Katie photography grants and has been able to
serve four families so far.

The photograph of this young woman does
not show the typical careful "setup" that is exemplary of Laura's
usual work. However,
Laura says, "no one could imagine what was needed to obtain this
image. The girl was constantly on the move, hitting herself with her
fist or pounding her head on ground." Laura, who has been
photographing special children for nine years, was very
frustrated and felt she would have nothing from the session to present
to the mom, who is a single parent with two other special children.
However, the mother's eyes filled with tears of gratitude as she viewed
this image, the first that has been made of her child in 22 years. This
is what Special Kids Photography is all about. |
