Valerie is shy at
first. We start with putting
the hand to the chin. She was shown how
to do it gently so her skin wouldn't distort. |
|
As we
try different poses, some silly, some
a little more serious, Valerie gets a better
feel of
the session and begins to relax. |
|
Keep
pressing that shutter release. You'll be
surprised at what you will end up getting.
Even this make a great set of thee photos. |
Valerie and her mother wanted a nice portrait. After
months of delay, Valerie's hair was cut and her teeth were fixed (two
important milestones). Now she was ready for her close-up. The appointed
day for the
session turned out to be very windy. What's more, Valerie lived on a hill, making the
situation even worse.
Valerie doesn't talk much but she is willing and
cooperative. She knew what it meant to have a "professional
photographer" take her picture. Both her mother and I chuckled when
Valerie began her "modeling session" as soon as my camera appeared with
it's gigantic lens.
The wind was blowing so badly that we had to move to
the other side of the house where the lighting wasn't as good. We took a
few shots there before I suggested we reschedule on a less blustery day.
As I exited the front door, we noticed that location
was sheltered from the wind. A swing was on the porch, but the
background was a window. I looked around and spotted a supporting column
with a large, green plant behind it. Perfect! "Lets do just a few
more pictures and see what we get." Out came the camera and Valerie was
conditioned enough now to follow exactly what I asked her to do. She was
an ideal model and a joy to photograph!
As is the case with most photographers, I couldn't wait
to load my photos and see what was on that little card, because the
porch shots seemed to render some pretty decent results. Have you ever
experienced that? Sometimes, the last minute "rethink takes" are the
best!
Delighted
with the girl's expressions, I called the mom and said that I didn't
think another session would be necessary; more photos from such a great
model would only make the task of choosing one for their annual
Christmas card greeting more difficult. |

As soon as Valerie
spotted my camera, she assumed her "model" poses. Her mother and I
chuckled at her comprehen- sion of the preconceived "requisites" for
a
successful "photo session." |

Photographers Will Host SKPA Clinics
SKPA will introduce a new
program in 2008. We have contacted several well-known photographers who
have agreed to host a Special Kids Photography Accreditation Workshop in
their studio. We will do the training, but we'll get to see their studio
and hopefully hear a few encouraging words from these outstanding
professionals! You may recognize the names below, because they are
regular program presenters at ImagingUSA (PPA) and WPPI as well as other
popular photo schools throughout the country. Check our
events page of
www.specialkidsphotography.com to learn more about the
individual trainings and accreditation process.
